Our Goal

 

To use education and awareness to end all forms of violence. SAVIS offers different public education workshops to schools, community members, and agencies in Halton. As part of our commitment to education, there is no cost associated with this service for schools and other not-for-profit community members. For businesses, we ask for an honorarium donation to continue to support our services at SAVIS. Each topic can be modified to suit the needs of the group. SAVIS offers the following programs to the community:

Cyber Violence (Grades 6-12)

  1. Defining cyber violence online and its relationship to sexual violence and human trafficking.  What grooming might look like online through social media and video gaming
  2. What to do if you are being harassed online, or how to help a friend.

Keeping Sex Safe & Healthy (Grades 8-9)

Discussions on types of sex, contraception, STI protection, sexual readiness, and consent – SAVIS invites teachers to collect questions from their students beforehand

Managing Secrets & Disclosures Grade 6-12

  1. Snitches get stiches, ratting, and whistle blowers; bringing language to secret based culture
  2. Spectrum of secrets, where do you draw the line on keeping secrets
  3. Sexual assault and managing disclosures; understanding survivors and the challenges they face in keeping secrets related to sexual violence

Human Trafficking

  1. What is human trafficking, what does it look like in the Halton Region, and understanding warning signs.
  2. What to do if you are being trafficked or how you can support a loved one who has experienced trafficking.

Each presentation uses a variety of learning methods including discussion, video clips, and interactive activities.

As our commitment to education, SAVIS continually works with community members in developing new presentations and workshops that meet the needs of our community.
